The Loving Way... In Harmony with Nature

About the Practitioner

Maggie Horn, IBCLC, CD(DONA), HBCE

Natural birth and breastfeeding have been an important part of my life for many years. My mother and her anecdotal stories of nursing her three children, my cousin Julie always with a baby in tow at the breast, and birthing my three surrounded by friends, family, and community made an impression on me that has affected every aspect of my life.

My third pregnancy and birth took place in the Colchester Maternity Home in England. Women in my small village met weekly to support each other through birth, nursing, and parenting. Birth at that time was looked on as a calm, natural event and was promoted as such.

I was impacted to the point of becoming a Childbirth Educator on my return to the States and have been teaching ever since. I have taught pregnant teens and couples in the US and Costa Rica as well as supported their breastfeeding efforts. My work as a HypnoBirthing Educator, Certified Doula, and Lactation Consultant continues to remind me that women need to feel safe, loved, and nurtured during their pregnancy, birth and nursing relationship. Then they are better able to birth and nurture their newborn.

HypnoBirthing pulls it all together for me. With its emphasis on the mind and body connection, HypnoBirthing lends itself to women birthing free of fear and in an atmosphere of calm relaxation. Calm birthing positively affects the baby and family bonding.

As well as being an RN, I hold certifications by the International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA), Doula’s of North America (DONA), and HypnoBirthing Institute.
